THE LADIES LOVE BLASTBEATS, METAL PODCASTS, AND KITTIES
On Saturday, the almighty Mammoth WVH and Dirty Honey rocked Big Night Live in Boston. Young Guns is a dual headliner tour (yes that's correct, dual) and it gets switched up every night. Tonight, we were gifted Dirty Honey as the opener. The venue was absolutely packed, wall to wall, with an audience ranging from young kids to adults. Some dressed in your typical rock show attire and some dressed eccentrically, but all having the time of their lives. To say it was a great night would be an understatement.
To kick off the night, Dirty Honey came out and gave us quite the show. The energy of the band and crowd was electric from the second the house music cut off, the lights dimmed, and they walked out on stage. Singer, Marc LaBelle, greeted the crowd and band members John Notto (guitar), Justin Smolian (bass), and Corey Coverstone (drums) immediately went into Gypsy, which appeared to be a crowd favorite. Marc joked about their manager wanting them to play in Worcester because they "wouldn't sell tickets in Boston" and they were thrilled to prove that statement wrong.
The audience showed so much love and excitement for these guys. They know how to entertain. The control that these guys have on their audience is incredible and it is evident that this is what they were born to do. The whole room was bouncing and singing along for the entirety of their set. Hell, even I was and this was my first time seeing AND hearing them. They are for sure a band I'll have on repeat for a while as well as seeing them every chance I get!
Next up, Mammoth WVH. This American rock band was founded by vocalist/guitarist/keyboardist Wolfgang Van Halen, son of the legendary guitarist Eddie Van Halen. I've only heard great things about this band and the shows being put on, so I had high expectations and mannn were they met. Garrett Whitlock (drums), Jon Jourdan (guitar), and Ronnie Ficarro (bass) came out first met by eager, screaming fans. Only for them to get louder once Wolfgang entered. They opened with Mammoth off of their self titled album and the audience went wild. Their energy grew and grew with each song they played.
"We don't have a demographic. I see kids. I see teenagers. I see parents and grandparents. You guys f*ckin' rule!" - Wolfgang Van Halen
Later on as the night was coming to an end, they paid tribute to Taylor Hawkins, drummer of Foo Fighters for the last 25 years, who had just passed the night before. Wolfgang stated that they had just learned My Hero that morning and were both saddened and honored to play it for Taylor. "Rest in peace, Taylor. We love you." Wolfgang said to end the song as the crowd started chanting Taylor! Taylor!
All in all, this show was beyond incredible. If you have the chance to see these guys on any of the stops, take it. It was all good vibes and people having a blast just jammin' to some rad music!
