THE LADIES LOVE BLASTBEATS, METAL PODCASTS, AND KITTIES
This past Wednesday, folks flooded Big Night Live for a very special guest. The legendary Alice In Chains guitarist/vocalist, Jerry Cantrell brought the Brighten Tour with opener Lola Colette and blew the roof off of the Boston venue!
Lola Colette brought her own twist to the show. She is a multitalented singer songwriter. A composer, producer, classically trained pianist as well as a multi-instrumentalist. She flawlessly blends pop and folk in her songs. Throughout her career she's had many great opportunities including performing as the solo pianist for Marvel's Guardians of The Galaxy: Vol. 1 (age 12) and Vol. 2 (age 15). Her vocals can be heard on Jerry Cantrell's album Brighten.
The guests of the Boston venue were gifted a little of each of Colette's talents. She sang, she played guitar, she played the keys. She is a triple threat and more! I'd describe her style as dark and beautiful -- it's soft and slow, it's upbeat and fun. It's comparable to No Doubt, Fiona Apple, Veruca Salt, and others alike. You could tell the crowd wasn't necessarily expecting this type of vibe but they were clearly not disappointed. They cheered and swayed along with each of her songs.
It was time for the guest of honor to take the stage. The audience got louder and louder as each member of the eminent, Jerry Cantrell's touring band stepped out and took their battle stations. As Cantrell made his appearance, the venue roared with excitement. They were more than ready for what was about to go down -- an hour long euphoric experience.
Cantrell fronts this five piece and is joined by Dillinger Escape Plan’s Greg Puciato on backing vocals, Tyler Bates on rhythm guitar, and Gil Sharone behind the kit. The band pulled out some Alice In Chains songs such as Them Bones, Man In The Box, Rooster, and others for the longtime fans. They played some of Cantrell's originals as well, which included songs off of albums Degradation Trip Volumes 1 & 2, Boggy Depot, and Brighten.
Overall it was a special night for new and veteran fans. It was full of great music, flashing lights, dancing, and fun! This tour continues through the states until May 21st and then picks back up on June 17th in Europe. Get to a show if you have the chance!!
